For those still burying their heads in the sand about the risks of superintelligence to humanity: wake up!

Congress needs a sense of urgency on AI that it has not had so far.

Anyone still denying the risks posed by unregulated AI should read this thread. It’s time to pump the brakes & take action NOW.

Mr. Coxon is right. The very people building this technology admit that it could threaten the future of humanity. That is why I will soon be introducing legislation to ban superintelligence and pause AI development.

The problem [Jacob Coxon] articulates - AI companies in a blind race to build a death machine first - can easily be solved.

Even if there was a 1% chance AI could wipe out human life, we should be pumping the brakes to make sure we have the proper safeguards in place, not racing blindly into disaster.

The clips that we’ll be using from this for the next 55 days will be very valuable to us to draw the contrast between these two sides and to let people know what’s really at stake in this midterm.

I know there will be a lot of eyeballs on the convention and what’s happening here.

The timing’s important because it’s close enough to the election to make a difference, but it’s also before early voting begins nationwide.

I don’t think it’s a mistake.

But instead you groveled and chose the path of self censorship.

Bending the knee to an authoritarian Administration only makes things worse.

Air whatever interviews with elected officials you want. You will win in court.

That's why 9/11 happened. 9/11 happened because our intelligence agencies, they were siloed, they were not sharing information. I don't know if it was a complacency or whatever, but there were a lot of problems.

Congress is very good at being reactive... We don't want another 9/11. So if I could leave my fingerprints on something here, it's the fact that the focus, Congress' focus on national security, Congress' focus on homeland security or…

Being chairman of the committee, being a New Yorker, it's one of those things you focus on, and you want to make sure another 9/11 doesn't happen, and doesn't ever happen again. And that's my goal. That's my priority.

When scientists tell you there is a chance, a chance that it could have a cataclysmic impact on humanity, you've got be a moron not to say, slow it down.

I would introduce legislation to ban firms from developing superintelligence.

We want to use AI to improve healthcare, to cure cancer et cetera. But we certainly don't want to see it wipe out humanity.

I listen to people who are a lot smarter than I am, and what they say is that AI sooner or later will become smarter than human beings.
