When that sovereignty is replaced by behind closed-door negotiations between politicians and union officials, that violates that sovereignty.

It is the very essence of our system of democratic governance that we elect officials who then make decisions.

More transparency, more ability of the public to see how their money is being spent is important.

I think it is very important because workers not only make the decision whether to join or to opt out of the union but they should be able to decide whether they want their dues withheld or whether they want to opt out.

I urge this committee to reject Federal takeover of these very important State functions.
