by number of sources- I rise to salute the outstanding work of the Greenburgh Nature Center, its professional staff, and its volunteer leadership for providing an environmental oasis for all to enjoy in the middle of a bustling suburb. The nature center is a 33-acre preserve just steps away from busy Central Avenue that offers hiking trails, demonstration gardens, and a live animal museum with barnyard animals and other wildlife. It provides educational programs, youth camps for kids, and an annual environmental set of events that welcomes the whole community. The professional team is led by Executive Director Alix Dunn. She had spent decades in environmental work with nonprofits in California before returning home to Westchester. Alix is aided by Marybeth Cagney, Chloe Digianni, Rosa Van Zandt, Elisabeth Mulder, Greg Wechgelaer, Andrew Michalski, and many others. The board of directors provides volunteer and community-based support and direction, led by President Dolya Fleck and other leaders: Jackie Feffer, Melissa Jones, Naomi Haber, Jim Blann, and former Town Councilwoman Diana Juettner. - let me recognize the outstanding work of the Co-op City branch of the NAACP for its many contributions to the life of African Americans in their area. The branch is ably led by president Leslie Peterson, and she is aided by Tracy Edwards, Brenda Brown, and Anika Green-Watson and has been connected and involved in numerous programs in their community. The branch meets on the fourth Sunday of each month in their offices in the Einstein, room 36, with interesting programs and speakers. The branch has also hosted and sponsored major events during February's Black History Month, the January celebration of the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King and in June for Juneteenth. The group joins other NAACP branches, notably the next-door Williamsbridge NAACP, for events like Know Your Rights seminars. Their advocacy of national NAACP legislative priorities bring them to lobby their elected officials on matters promoting education, healthcare, and antidiscrimination policies. - I rise to recognize the outstanding contributions made by At Home on the Sound to benefit senior citizen residents of Larchmont and Mamaroneck. Tonight, they are celebrating their 15th anniversary with their Crystal Celebration. I can't be there in person, but we are there in spirit. At Home provides a support system to help seniors continue to enjoy a vibrant lifestyle as they age--able to remain in their homes and highly active. At Home volunteers and professionals deliver a monthly schedule of educational programs, active discussion groups, social gatherings, and the necessary transportation. When I retire, not that long from now, I know exactly where I can go to learn how to paint and play bridge, canasta, mahjong, and a host of other recreations. At Home on the Sound complements the already active senior recreation programs offered by the Village of Larchmont, the Village of Mamaroneck, and the town of Mamaroneck, providing a complete menu of services and programs for those 60-plus years of age in our area. - I rise today to salute the life and achievements of Lola Daniels Hunter, who served our community as president of the White Plains Greenburgh Branch of the NAACP, as a board member of the Greenburgh Police and Advisory Committee, and as a leader of the North Elmsford Civic Associations. For over 50 years, Lola was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in White Plains, serving in board leadership. She showed her professional skills in the Westchester Department of Service Services, having achieved a B.A. degree from the College of New Rochelle and an M.B.A. from Pace University. She is survived by her daughter, Priscilla ``Ann'' Daniels, and legions of friends and neighbors in Greenburgh, White Plains, and Mamaroneck who loved her as she loved them and the community.
