U.S. Governors

I have requested federal assistance after speaking to US President Donald Trump.

It’s OK that the states are different and they have different values and philosophies.

And if the people determine that there’s nothing to do, then there’s nothing to do. But if the people determine that we move, we move.

I deeply appreciate the President taking time to have this conversation, and I am optimistic we will receive a quick approval for our request for a federal emergency declaration.

Things are extremely dynamic, especially in Spokane.

We're here for the long haul.

Just in a matter of hours, their lives changed in deeply dramatic and fundamental ways. And so it's difficult to find words when folks have experienced a loss like that.

I spoke in pretty clear fashion about how dire the situation is.

The president was very gracious, as was Secretary Mullin,

We had a spending cap going back to the early ’90s, and everyone winked at it.

I have to remind people every day how dire our circumstance was in decades past.

I thought the [2017] guardrails made some sense, and I’m glad they did it.

I think people are taking a second look at Connecticut because of this fiscal dedication.

I think I’m the only governor — ever — to take our pension obligations seriously and make a difference there.

The results speak for themselves — people urgently need affordable health care.

The grants will help expand economic opportunity and support long-term recovery across the region.

The Chinese Communist Party is evil and barbaric. They are using slave labor and violating human rights on the high seas to prop up their regime.

Whether implemented through regulation or enacted by Congress, these cuts would strip disabled veterans of earned compensation and health care benefits – they should be rejected outright.

At a time when Americans are seeking sensible solutions to the biggest challenges facing our country, Service United will help get to the heart of what so many Americans are looking for.

Service United is a bipartisan call to action for our nation’s governors to create and expand paid service programs that meet our most urgent community needs while helping young Americans build critical skills.

At a time of deep division, I firmly believe that service will save us.

I am honored to work with the new executive committee as chair, and I am confident that when we put our heads together we will show that government still works, bipartisan leaders still deliver, and service will save us.
