States run elections, not Donald Trump. I will do everything I can to protect New Jerseyans’ right to vote – by mail and in person.

My administration has continued to move aggressively to fix the error at the Motor Vehicle Commission under the previous (Trenton) administration, to correct our voter rolls, and to protect the voting rights of eligible New Jerseyans.

We will continue working to fully remediate the issue left behind by the previous (Trenton) administration, and ensure the voting rights of every eligible New Jerseyan are protected.

I said we would conduct a thorough, complete, and fair investigation, and that is exactly what we are doing. Because that is what accountable government looks like.

That stands in contrast to the Trump administration and Republicans, whose only interest has been in trying to use this issue for political gain.

According to Governor Sherrill, around 400 of these individuals successfully voted in elections since 2023.

Corporations should not have the right to monetize imprisoning people while avoiding public accountability.

I have long opposed the use of private, for-profit prisons operating in a space that should be reserved for government.

Sherrill attributed the mistake to a 'serious software error in New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle system.'

Certainly if that was the law passed here, I would support that.

This tragedy is another painful reminder of why Delaney Hall should be closed.

Every effort to block oversight raises serious questions about what is happening inside Delaney Hall and what those operating the facility are trying to hide.

We are not in the practice of turning over this kind of personally identifying data over to the federal government because we have seen them weaponize it, I’ve seen it personally.

We are moving very, very quickly. We are already removing people from the rolls who are not properly on there as we identified the serious system error, and as far as the investigation, it is moving quickly.

It’s unacceptable that the vendor released software with such a glaring error. It’s unacceptable that the MVC took a year to get this issue fixed, and it’s unacceptable that no one, in the previous administration, brought this to light…

I’m not in the habit of turning over private identifying information of the citizens of New Jersey. This federal government is weaponizing the government against individuals that disagree with them.

It is not a surprise to me that the federal government, that the Trump administration, wants to weaponize this against people as opposed to focusing on making sure that we’re running free and fair elections.

We are taking this extra step because our initial review indicates that a number of these individuals may be citizens.
