I am not saying this is going to be easy. It won’t be easy, but I know we can turn this city around.

Our city is in crisis. We need government to work. We need effective leadership.

We know that the first step towards solving a problem is having the strength, having the courage to recognize it, and we know that today, our New York City is in trouble.

The best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to government.

But New Yorkers know the simple answer of what to do when there’s a crisis in leadership. You lead, you act, you do.

And that is why I announce my candidacy today for mayor of New York City.

In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn.

I know what needs to be done and I know how to do it. Experience matters. Leading New York City in the midst of a crisis is not the time or the place for on-the-job training.

The city just feels threatening, out of control, and in crisis.

It's just deeply disrespectful. When we think about the patriotic nature that they bring to work every single day.

My oath is to the Constitution of our state and of our country. We don’t have kings in America — and I don’t intend to bend the knee to one.
