There is no military solution to the problems we face in Iraq.

You need to think about whether we're going to fight for freedom and keep freedom for our future generations.

The Democrats have drawn a line in the sand and said they are ready to set a time deadline for which we will leave Iraq.

I can't think of a worse message to the enemy than, here is when we're going to lose our commitment.

I think it is critical to set a date, because it is the only way the Iraqis are ultimately going to take responsibility. It is the way to shift our forces through redeployment to the real war on terror.

I believe we need a hard-and-fast deadline, not an open-ended commitment of U.S. forces.

Some fellow Democrats want a different timetable. And yet -- yet others call the whole debate political suicide.

We're unified on the most essential ingredient, which is the failure of this administration, their lack of honesty with the American people about what is really happening in Iraq.

Well, their policy is lie and die. You know, which do you -- which -- you know, it seems to me that our policy is redeploy to succeed.

I think Harry Reid really sort of summed up the whole issue today when he said, I think that even though we have at least two positions, I think, if you look at them closely, they're basically the same.

This amendment is not cut and run. This is not about a date certain. This is about getting the president to do the job correctly, something he's failed to do for the last three years and three months.

The change of policy that we call for is significant. The administration's policy to date, that we will be there for as long as Iraq needs us, will result in Iraq's depending upon us longer.

A specific deadline for withdrawing is irresponsible.

Nor do I think it is smart strategy to set a date certain. I do not agree that that is in the best interest of our troops or our country.

We strongly support S. 1294, the Community Broadband Act, sponsored by Senators Lautenberg and McCain.

Chairman Stevens deserves a lot of credit for introducing such a thoughtful and far-reaching telecommunications bill.

The goal is to promote competition wherever possible.
