Fred serves as the choir director and his wife, Connie, serves as the organist and director of the handbell choir at the Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church in my hometown of Casper, WY. Through music, Fred and Connie Taylor have helped our congregation share in God's love, grace, and teachings for 24 years. Last Sunday marked their last service in leading the musical ministry of the church as they start their well-earned retirement. Fred and Connie Taylor have been married for over 50 years. Since they first met at the University of Dayton, this lovely couple has been celebrating life and music together. In fact, music brought them together. The couple met when Fred was performing in the role of Elijah in Mendelssohn's ``Elijah'' and Connie was assigned to be his accompanist. Since that day, they have been performing together and sharing their musical talents in schools and churches across the nation. The Taylors fell in love with Wyoming during a trip to our great State in 1979. A short time later, Fred and Connie moved to Hanna, WY. Fred got a job as band director at the school and Connie took the position as the choir director. In 1986, they moved to Casper, WY. - I come to the floor today having just spent Thanksgiving Day with our troops serving in Afghanistan. It was an incredible honor to join President Trump in a surprise visit to the soldiers stationed at Bagram Air Force Base. We served Thanksgiving dinner to our dedicated servicemembers. Those are the individuals who serve us every day. Our troops were absolutely thrilled to receive the thanks of our grateful Nation directly delivered from the Commander in Chief. They know President Trump has their back. The photo shows a number of members of the Wyoming National Guard, the 2-300th, the Cowboy Calvary. My father-in-law, Bob Brown from Thermopolis, WY, was a member of this group when he served in Korea. It was such a privilege to introduce the President to some of my home State's Wyoming National Guard members. He actually had two of them up on the stage with him. They are doing a tremendous job on behalf of Wyoming's largest deployment overseas right now in about a decade. We told all of our servicemembers how grateful the Nation is for their service and their sacrifice and their dedication. Meanwhile, here in Washington, the Democrats continue to block the bills that we need to have passed to keep our Nation secure. - I just heard the minority leader, the senior Senator from New York, Senator Schumer, on this floor talking about today's Consumer Price Index data. Stunningly, he points to President Trump as the reason for it. Let me just correct the record. The price data that Senator Schumer is complaining about is from the final days of the Joe Biden administration. Those are the numbers that are out today from the final days of the Biden administration. Certainly everyone in Wyoming and everyone in your home State of Oklahoma knows that under the Biden administration, the Democrats, prices of goods and groceries, gasoline--the things that we need in our everyday life--prices rose more than 20 percent under Joe Biden. High prices are Joe Biden's parting gift and his lasting legacy. They are the party of open borders and high prices. That is why they lost the election. So here we have the Senate minority leader--now in the minority. He used to be in the majority. The reason he is in the minority is because of the high prices brought on the people of this country as a result of that administration. The numbers out today are reflective of the final days of that administration. Painfully high prices--they came from Democrats' reckless overspending. And their policies--we are from energy States--were anti- American-energy policies. - I come to the floor having just listened to the minority leader of the Senate come to the floor, and I listened to what he had to say. You know, it has been 10 weeks now that Republicans have been in the majority and the Democrats have been in the minority after the historic victory in November. The contrast is pretty significant. Senate Republicans made promises to the American people. We promised to get the country back on track. We are keeping that promise. We are hitting the ground running, and we are not turning back. Most importantly for our successes, it has been because Republicans have remained united. As a result, we have a list of accomplishments as opposed to what we just heard the minority leader talk about. First, the Senate has now confirmed all 21 members of President Trump's Cabinet, and we did it at a record pace--a faster pace than the Democrats were able to do for Obama in 2009 and faster than they were able to do it for President Biden in 2021. The pace with which Republicans have confirmed President Trump's nominees to the Cabinet-- as POLITICO pointed out today--all completed before the Senate has taken a break. That is where we are today. Historic speed. With his team in place early, President Trump is able to execute effectively and efficiently the popular agenda for which he was elected. - I come to the floor today because we are at a decisive and consequential moment in the Senate. We are here to consider the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to be a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Will Democrat Senators vote to have a well-qualified, mainstream Justice who stands for the rule of law, or will the extreme leftwing of that party continue to try to call the shots? That is a decision Members are going to have to make. America needs judges who can follow the law, apply the law, have the highest ethical standards, and value the independence of our courts. To me, that is a description of Judge Gorsuch. That is him in a nutshell. We saw it throughout his career, and we saw it again at his confirmation hearings in the Judiciary Committee. Democrats on the committee asked him to answer hypothetical questions. They asked about issues that are probably going to be coming before the Supreme Court of the land. There are ethics rules that say that judges and nominees cannot answer those kinds of questions and, of course, Judge Gorsuch followed the rules. That is exactly what other nominees have done in the past who were nominated by Republican Presidents and Democratic Presidents. Ruth Bader Ginsburg did so in her confirmation hearing in 1993. She said: ``A judge sworn to decide impartially can offer no forecasts, no hints.'' She said this would display disdain for the entire judicial process. - I rise today to speak about America's future. It is a future that must be secure. It is a future that must be prosperous, and it is, most importantly, a future that must be free of all dependency from communist China. For decades, weak policies allowed China to exploit our workers, exploit our innovation, and exploit our markets. Under Republican leadership, America is once again reclaiming our strength. China rigged the game with subsidies from the state, with currency manipulation, with market access barriers, and forced technology transfers. China abused our free enterprise and our open markets.
