Former senators

I will begin my opening statement and hope, with the inherent ability I have as a U.S. Senator to continue talking for long periods of time, that I will be able to fill the space between now and when Senator McCain arrives.

As we look to the future, we have to find the appropriate balance between strengthening and protecting the housing finance system from undue risk, while maintaining access for credit-worthy Americans to achieve sustainable home ownership.

For any of us who have been there--known we have to move out by a certain date, and we're waiting for a closing to occur--this is a very, very stressful moment for many families.

I want to ask you, Mr. Director, about the lack of support for the Southwest Border efforts--the $130 million.

You are the second longest serving FBI Director in our Nation's history, after Hoover.

I have a number of questions for the closed session.

I want to hear from you if the 2012 request is sufficient to enhance child predator investigations and target predators before they strike so we can save children's lives.

Are you saying you need more for that to be completely effective?

We have to make sure every dollar we spend to keep our Nation safe is a dollar well spent.

We must ensure that the FBI has the resources it needs to protect the lives of 311 million Americans.

I'm particularly worried on some of the accounts and the funding levels, but there are some issues that I would highlight.

It increasingly looks like we're not. And with the cash flow problems of the Japanese Government, I would have a pretty dim view of how this thing is going to go.

I'm also worried about--no master plan or releasable total cost for the facilities in Guam.

The existence of human trafficking in any part of the world should be of utmost concern to the United States.

I'm concerned on the Guam side that the U.S. military commitment to Guam, which is vast and necessary, in my view, should, first, include a huge missile defense architecture.

My worry is that because of international pressure or something we might worry about putting something there, which would render this entire investment useless.

It is my hope that someday soon, the people of China will have their own democratic 'Chinese Spring.'
