The fundamental purpose of this program is to assist small businesses to become self-sufficient and capable of competing effectively in the marketplace.

However, according to the Government Accountability Office and the Inspector General reports, there have been some problems in the oversight and implementation of the program.

It's just not fair. I'm proud that we're making efforts on the family housing.

In some of the barracks where we're asking our soldiers, I would literally not want to see pets or animals kept in some of these facilities.

It's very important. Whether it's for homeland security or drug interdictions, or hurricanes, for that gulf coast region to have that kind of protection and reach.

I again appreciate you holding this hearing and look forward to working with you as we seek to address and resolve the issue.

I am very confident of that because I have seen how efficient and how effective you are able to be in the operations of these businesses.

I had the tremendous opportunity to tour the plant last year and saw firsthand the benefits the program has had on the Tribe's economy and throughout north Idaho.

I want to commend Chief Allan for his strong leadership on issues of importance to both Idahoans and the American people.

I know that the time is getting late and we are kind of getting jammed up up here.

I was there to tour this plant with you, and I know of the big success that it was.

That's what's at stake.

There is no question that there have been challenges in years past on making sure the 8(a) corporations are successful.

it is more important to talk to the people who actually do the business.

These are great examples of why the program and the many members that I know within the 8(a) corporations are incredibly successful.

This was a bipartisan effort in fighting mortgage fraud that came from Senator Shelby and myself.
