Mr. Chairman, thank you for agreeing to hold a hearing on S. 341 which is the San Juan Mountains Wilderness Act and several other bills that are on the list that are important to Colorado.

As my good friend from Arkansas said and for the benefit of the Senator from Oregon, we haven't made a request yet for this amendment to be moved to the front of the line to be debated, but we are here to say that we would like to have…

Let me quickly yield to my friend from Oklahoma for a unanimous consent request. The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator from Oklahoma.

I think these comments are concerning to our allies in the region.

We do not just want to be a military power. We want to be an economic and diplomatic one and have influence in the region.

His comments talked about if the United States builds up militarily, there is going to be a counterreaction from China.

It is important that we clearly understand that the administration's promises include things that are new and innovative.

I do welcome the recent deployment of military assets to the region.

the gravest danger to the American people is the threat of a terrorist attack with a nuclear weapon and the spread of nuclear weapons to dangerous enemies.

I'd also like to thank Senator Barrasso for his willingness to work with us and for the changes he's already made in the bill in response to our previous concerns.

It's critical that it be reinstated as soon as possible.

We thank Senator Udall for his collaborative approach and appreciate the local involvement that has contributed to wide support in Colorado for this bill.

It's clear just from today's agenda that the subcommittee will be actively involved in many Federal land management issues.

I look forward to working closely with Senator Barrasso, the subcommittee's ranking member.

I look forward to working with Senator Barrasso across the partisan divide to pass what's very common sense and clearly a bipartisan idea.

It surely brings issues like the availability of water to the forefront, and it has in my State unlike ever before.
