I am struck that some people are just born entrepreneurs.

It is an issue that is important to our country and something that Congress has been trying to fix for over a decade.

I am particularly concerned about the administration's proposal to raise the capital gains tax and apply the tax when an asset is transferred at death or by gift.

this is just a very punitive tax on family farms and small businesses.

If it is to break up family farms, obviously, it is going to have that effect.

this just seems like a really strange proposal, particularly if you represent a constituency like I do in a farm-based part of the country.

you have a triple shot. You have an increase in the rate, you have a change in the time of realization, and you do away with stepped-up basis, all at the same time.

this capital gains proposal that you all put forward, we really need to talk clearly about what it would do.

I want it for the record, because I want it answered in writing, and I want all committee members to have it.

Let me submit that to the question. If we're concerned about recidivism, I would like to know...

We're all concerned about the ongoing viability of the 2001 AUMF...

I think to say that the concern about the propaganda value of Guantanamo is just a political argument... ignores an awful lot of facts.

Those who would argue that this is something that cannot be dealt with through the Article 3 courts of the United States that have withstood the test of time since 1787 are clearly, in my view, not looking at this data.

Islamic terrorists don't need an excuse to attack the United States. They don't attack us for what they do. They attack us for who we are.

I believe that collective bargaining works, but it works best when we have successful, efficient, effective business.

I think that raises constitutional concerns; and now with the joint employer issue, it seems to me this is a triple-headed attack.

How can we expect businesses to grow and innovation to flourish if the Board is simultaneously shortening the timeframe for union elections down to as few as 10 days?

I believe that any new tax on banks ultimately finds its way to the consumer.
