we all worked very hard together--and actually, Senator Shelby, on Title I and II we got 85 votes on your and Senator Dodd's approach

I think Senator Shelby did not agree with me on this one, but on the OFR, which would be, in effect, the independent repository of data and information.

I believe there are 3 guards that are very important if the government is going to have to make difficult choices which the government has to do.

I'm intrigued by some of your proposals, Mr. Jenkins, about how we really do get to reform of some of our subsidies and how we figure out what the ramping is.

The third thing I think that needs to be done is to assure that we have competent people in our government who are able to make sensible judgments without conflicts.

Second, whatever is done should be highly transparent.

It would be, indeed, a fine birthday present if we could figure out, as a committee, how we really advance some good, strong energy policy for this Nation using the ingenuity, the, just the opportunity that we have as a Nation to really…

I think most would agree that it's time for us to renew a coherent, long term approach to energy development, truly and all of the above approach.

It is. It's trying to find that balance and determining where you have those areas where the private sector just isn't willing or able to be involved.

Innovation, of course, is absolutely at the core of that strategy.

I appreciate your comments. I've long held that one of the ways to get to our energy future is, again, using those revenues from our fossil fuels to help build out the technology, the innovation, to advance us to the next generation of…

The first of those is that the government appoint competition to the maximum possible extent so that everybody has a fair shot at contributing and being involved.

The question is: Is it going to be subsidized by taxpayer-insured deposits?

You need to identify the specific assets, and you need to identify the specific risk that you are hedging.

I have to say from a very personal level, I'm not about to sit here and indict private equity.

It's nauseating to the American public. Enough is enough.

It's nauseating to the American people. Enough is enough.

Let me be clear. Mitt Romney has made his business record a centerpiece of his campaign.
