To save Americans from what very well could be the largest tax increase imposed by a Republican Congress, I offer an amendment that strikes the authority to impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on an ever-changing list of countries.

This process should be about Mr. Blanche and how he will go forward in a difficult job, and how the American people can be best served.

I have not approached it that way.

And wage growth slowed, straining families’ paychecks even more as they struggle to keep up with Trump’s inflation.

Job growth in May and June was revised down by more than 100,000 jobs, job openings have fallen and more people are out of the labor force than at any time on record.

President Trump’s failing economic agenda is weakening the labor market.

I will vote for Mr Blanche. Mr Blanche is not perfect, and he will tell you this, but the choice is not between perfection and Mr Blanche; it is between Mr Blanche and another acting attorney general who may not run the department…

He can advise the president, but the president is not obligated to take his advice

This is the rationale for having a Senate confirmed attorney general with more leverage to push back

I will be criticized for this vote

I am particularly concerned about episodes of apparent lawfare, DOJ bringing suits against political enemies.

I am realistic that President Trump can be unrelenting on this, but this will be true no matter who the attorney general is.

I will vote for Mr. Blanche. I'll be criticized for this vote. What's new? But the people of Louisiana can be assured that I worked hard to understand the issue and to make the right decision.

This shouldn't be controversial. This should just be something to build trust in our elections.

When you vote you may not know for weeks to months what the final election count is.

I have made fun of other states for years because there's quite a few states around the country that can't seem to figure out how to be able to count.

Not that I have a lot of sway, but at least I will do everything I can to make sure that this is at the heart of every Democrat running for president.

What is being neglected here is the bigger picture. And that's this foreign policy paradigm that is so required for the United States and Mexico and the Americas.

We need someone in the White House to oversee the border, migration, Mexico, and the Americas. No one is in charge now. We need a border and migration czar.

From day one, there should have been a great sense of urgency in addressing the crisis of a broken border and the migration crisis that we are seeing.

All considered, I will vote for Mr Blanche.

This is not a referendum on President Trump, it is a decision regarding Mr Blanche, in very specific circumstances.

You have received an astronomical cash infusion in the form of a tariff refund, and Apple customers who paid increased prices for your products, ostensibly due to tariffs, deserve to know how that money will be spent.

But American families have no recourse for the increased prices they paid.
