I was a speaker at Buffalo High School graduation, and the thing that really struck me was, out of all of the graduates there, there were none that were obese.

I think it is a good program. ... it makes a tremendous impact, and particularly when leaders like you are involved in it.

There are so many ways out there of having physical activity that kids kind of shy away from.

I hope we can give a little bit of concentration to how we get the rubber to meet the road.

If we're not going to leave any children behind what about their health?

I applaud the First Lady's efforts to raise obesity awareness.

Among the Native Americans in my State, there's a high lactose intolerance. And we provide regular milk, not Lactaid.

Maybe we ought to think about pulling you in on this Elementary and Secondary Education Act to start thinking about what needs to be done in our elementary schools to get more health education, more exercise, things like that for kids.

Unfortunately, the Federal Government does not have a great track record in implementing programs that actually modify people's behaviors.

How do you plan to work with the schools in America to design the best policies that can lead to healthier environments for kids, like perhaps recess before lunch?

I really don't think that we celebrate, enough, the average child doing something physical.

Our Nation faces an epidemic of childhood obesity.

Under current funding levels, of course, it is not possible for the WIA system to provide services to the 88 million adults currently in the labor force who could benefit from obtaining post-secondary education leading to an industry…

However, it is critical that Federal policymakers address this problem.

We really need to do something in this area, that we need to get rid of the silos, build in some flexibility, and there needs to be increased funding.

We are all working on the healthcare problem.

I want to thank you for holding the hearing on this important issue.

This is equally important to healthcare. I want you to know that it bears that kind of importance for me.

We have got to get it done this year. We have just got to. We are going to get it done.

The facts are that 8 in 10 jobs require some skilled post-secondary credential.

I believe that if we ever get this reauthorized, there will be more funding.

We need to create a workforce that has the skills to fill those jobs.

If confirmed, my decisions, unlike the views of a scholar, will have practical, concrete and important consequences. I will have a duty to implement the intent of Congress.

I think it has produced little. In fact, I think it is one of the great tragedies in the history of the country that we have gotten so little out of such an incredibly large expenditure.

The bill that some of us supported that Senator Thune and Senator McCain offered for half the cost... would have created twice as many jobs and half the debt impact on our country.
