I think there is compelling evidence that what we have seen in our neonatal intensive care units and in labor and delivery is a result of the broader prescription opioid epidemic.

I think it is important to understand neonatal abstinence syndrome, or NAS, in the context of the public health challenge of the overprescribing of opioid painkillers in the United States.
