I would like is for consumers to have the benefit of normal, healthy competition.

Thank you, Chairman Miller, for holding this extremely important hearing on the role of the World Bank and the multilateral development banks with respect to the United States' national security.

We simply cannot have any meaningful impact on our deficits and national debt by relinquishing American MDB world leadership to China and other emerging nations.

The multilateral development banks play a vital role in combating global poverty and providing basic infrastructure needs for developing countries that are vulnerable to the spread of terrorism.

Creating conditions within developing countries that foster long-term security and economic development will enhance the United States' national security initiatives and renew our commitment to human dignity.

Why would it not be in the taxpayers' interest for FHFA, as conservator of Fannie and Freddie, to use that market power to try to reform the market for servicers

If we had done that, we wouldn't be where we are today.

We need comprehensive reform. But we need to look and ask, 'What did Freddie and Fannie do wrong? And how can we correct that?'

Where would the housing market have been in mid-2007 if the GSEs weren't there? In a disastrous situation.

But today, the government owns them. Now, the government has an opportunity to make them solvent, to get paid back every dime we lent them.

I hope this can be a bipartisan issue, because it is definitely a national issue.

When EPA sends my office an email terminating all communications with my office, something is severely wrong with the Agency.
