The Public Record
I applaud the bill's authors and the committee's interest in this critical public health problem.
The real problem is we have some things built in high-risk areas that frankly shouldn't be built.
Mrs. Beatty and I have a bill that would expand the Moving to Work program, and it is really important to help thousands of people around our country lift their lives out of poverty, and live the American dream.
the Moving to Work program is, unfortunately, limited to just a few places, and I think it is really important that we provide that same flexibility to allow these families to be lifted out of poverty.
There is a bill out there. It is a bipartisan bill that I am the sponsor of, along with Mr. Loebsack of Iowa, to fix that.
the goal that all of us have is not that we give more housing assistance; it is that we ultimately lift people out of poverty.
What happens when we make a standard that might work for big corporations and rich people is that it leaves the little guy out.
I have heard from the small issuers. And I have a lot of small towns that dot my district.
If you change the standard for people like Linda and Mark, what could happen is they could be priced out of the market because the fees are going to eat up all their money.
