I think particularly the threat to our national security, the threat to our Democratic elections. We have seen now for 2020 going forward, a forward looking threat with the president withholding support for a strategic partner.

We need the full report. We need the I.G.'s report, and then we need to keep pressure on the president, because we know he said in the past that he would turn over certain documents or do certain things and has not followed through.

But I hope we do not negate the progress that we have helped build in that country and the sacrifices, particularly that our troops have made by pulling out with a plan in place to create and sustain lasting peace.

So, our President loves to refer to himself as a great negotiator and a great deal maker. But we have not seen any successful deals on behalf of the American people yet.

I urge you to use the power of that to take further meaningful steps to combat the addiction crisis.

In the early days of our roles, we toured our districts. We spoke with health departments, hospitals, first responders.

This legislation does just that. It gives certainty--the certainty that states need that will provide them the funding.

Federal agencies need to listen to scientists and allow them to do their work free of political considerations.

Federal agencies must have explicit rules in place to affirm that scientific research will be free of political interference.

You may disagree with the politics of the current Administration, but let's stick to the facts of what is happening with science in our Federal agencies, not rumor, not exaggeration.

I believe this Committee needs to carefully examine the facts around these misleading assumptions.
