If you stop people from commuting to New York, you are going to lose money in the long run, because New York is the engine that generates a great deal of money that goes to the federal government.

I have long been a proponent of U.S. assistance to Mexico, to help strengthen its democratic institutions, combat corruption, defend human rights, and improve security.

This resolution highlights the severe human rights abuses that have taken place in Nicaragua since last year and conveys bipartisan support for the people of Nicaragua as they seek to reclaim their fundamental rights.

I want to speak about the resolution I introduced with my colleague, Francis Rooney, ranking member of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee.

That's amazing to me after all this time. It took this hearing for them just to even look and investigate what your comments were.

I think as someone who travels on planes it's very comforting to know that you would try to do the right thing.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

I would never support any money for Haiti that goes to the army in this Congress.

This hearing comes at a critical time for Haiti.

We will pay close attention to this crisis and do everything we can to change things.

I hope this is just the first of many congressional hearings on Haiti. For too long, there have been no hearings on Haiti.

We do not want any corrupt officials, whether it is from the opposition or from the government party, to be in place.

The street demonstrations have been seen in Haiti and appear to reflect even deeper discontent.

Many factors are contributing to this concerning situation.
