Just an editorial comment. I'm constantly reminded as a former history major, the history around us when Teddy Roosevelt talked about the malefactors of great wealth, and the influence of trusts in the Congress.

And so that's why you see these voting measures that are so incredibly important to make it easier, and actually it ends up saving money when you move to online voter registration.

The American people are watching this right now, they are watching us right now trying to figure out how I'm going to make it?

There's something wrong with that.

If somebody's making $10,000 a month off of keeping me alive but not curing it, why would be the incentive to cure it?

So transparency, strikes me, would be helpful here both for the physicians but for the customers.

I am determined and I'm going to paint Ms. Worsham's face in the DNA of every cell in my brain to try to make sure that her other daughter who's facing the same thing does not die.

I mean, just think about that. This is America, this is United States of America, and I am convinced that we are better than that.

So I would just like to conclude. When I was in the legislature, I was a big supporter because I represented California in the National Conference of State Legislators.

California more than ever needs a world-class passenger rail system.

It is unacceptable that drug companies would use the opioid crisis as a way to profiteer at the expense of all of our constituents.

I really think this is an amazing opportunity for us in Congress to change the dynamics on these reoccurring public health crises.

The commission stated only about 10 percent of those who need treatment receive it and they warned that people are, and I quote, 'losing their lives as a result of it.'

This issue does not discriminate based on politics. It affects red States, blue States, and purple States.

I do feel the frustration on both sides here.

If I could interrupt, that is sort of what I am getting at.

I don't think so. It may have been a 10 for Tiffany Brown and the Jones brothers, but it surely hasn't been a 10 for the people of Puerto Rico or for the U.S. taxpayer.

I fear, with this particular initiative--and to be honest, Madam Secretary, with the tone of this hearing--we are doing great damage to that history of bipartisanship.
