Regardless of where it goes, have you done planning or is there nothing contingent in your budget request for any added building for that?

I just believe that, in general, the Navy has done well in focusing on quality of life issues.

It just seems like you would want to stand it up as early as possible.

It would be part of the expectation of this committee and Congress that you would have a plan B.

Are you pursuing other options? Are you beginning to look for other places where you can expand other than Pinon Canyon?

I am concerned about the Army's investment in infrastructure in the United States.

We should be increasing our construction in the United States, not decreasing it.

So what then would be the timetable? If there is nothing in this year's budget request for generic military construction for that headquarters, what would then be the timetable for putting it into the FYDP or into a future budget?

I thought that we should be increasing our military construction and moving it up.

I hope today's discussions with the Army and Air Force addresses how the Department intends to complete all of the BRAC recommended actions before the statutory deadline of September 30, 2011.

When will you pull the plug on Pinon Canyon if you don't see a possibility?

The sooner we can get our servicemen and women home and into new, state-of-the-art facilities, the sooner we will live up to our commitment to provide for them in a way that is commensurate with their service to our Nation.

I believe we need to look at that standard as for what it is that newspaper companies and how they can get a fair return for the investment they're making and the journalism we're publishing digitally.

This is such an appropriate and timely subject for us to discuss.

I think having heard their different views, they have studied this. They have had commissions and they have some good ideas.

Our transportation mission should evolve to maintaining and improving this valuable infrastructure.

I think it is time for us to start looking at perhaps different ways of dividing this up where you have some high-growth states that are hurting for highway money.

That is why today I am introducing the Highway Fairness and Reform Act of 2009.

I think this is the time to start this debate, and I hope that we can come to agreement on what is equitable for all of our states, not just some.

I have now seen that we have confirmed six in Texas.

Many of those states, including Texas, are forced to bear an unfair burden through the current funding scheme.

I am very concerned about the response and particularly, the response for incoming airplanes, as well as cross-border traffic with Mexico.

I think that would be a tremendous benefit.

I believe there is a proper Federal role in promoting the safety and security of our national transportation system.

It just seems to me that taking a little more precaution about someone coming in, because we've seen this spread pretty rapidly when it does get into our country, wouldn't there be something more prudent in between what you're saying…
