I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure that we prevent another damaging capability gap like the one we experienced at the conclusion of our Space Shuttle program.

The ISS also serves as a laboratory for fundamental and applied science as well as an observation platform for astronomical, environmental, and heliophysics research.

I am skeptical that sending wealthy space tourists to ISS is the best or even a good use of taxpayers-funded facility.

We need to ensure that those resources are focused on those tasks that can only be done by ISS and that are a high priority.

I am not convinced it does.

I support efforts to create a vibrant commercial space economy in low-Earth orbit, but ultimately it is the private sector that will determine whether or not that will happen.

The International Space Station is the largest and most complex science and engineering project ever carried out in space.

You will be creating a licensing category for the space support vehicles, whereupon they have kind of refused to do that.

The unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats at the FAA couldn't get off center.

We parlayed that into about 15 percent, almost completely choked the golden goose.

I pretty much think is the role of government, you do for the people what the people cannot do individually.

We need to develop mechanisms to include these at every step of decisionmaking so that we ensure in complex social contexts where these tools are being used that they're safe and that the people most at risk of harm are protected.

Investing in research to reduce emissions from these important economic sectors is essential to meeting our climate change mitigation goals.

I was proud to support the bipartisan Fossil Fuel Research and Development Act of 2018, which reauthorizes and expands these important research activities.

Historically, fossil fuels have served as a primary source of U.S. energy as they provide reliable power at low cost.

I do appreciate this hearing being held on the Department of Energy's efforts to mitigate the environmental impacts of fossil fuels used in the power sector, as well as in manufacturing processes.
