I recall the optimism of that moment and how it was crushed when the troops and the tanks rolled in.

Like many Americans at the time, I was inspired and moved by their courage and their pursuit of those fundamental freedoms--freedoms that we hold dear--and at times--take for granted.

Twenty-five years ago, millions of people across China--not just in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, but across China--rallied in support of democracy, human rights, and an end to corruption.

Today, we remember an event that occurred 25 years ago, but that continues to resonate in so many ways.

In my view, opportunities were missed after Tiananmen.

This Congress has been falling short of its obligations to care for our veterans when they return.

Three months is too long when it comes to honoring our veterans.

We have a moral obligation to take care of our veterans.

I applaud this Administration for its continued commitment to providing funding for veterans.

It is important that when you make these statements, if it undermines Social Security as a public social insurance program, if your comments do that, you are doing it as a member of this Advisory Board.

But I also know we know how to fix these things.

I am concerned about this Board, really since the attempts at privatization of Social Security in the middle part of the last decade.

So often a husband and wife work at the same place, a small plant. If a plant like that closes... the whole family income is lost.

I appreciate your work on this issue.

I know Senator Burr did not say that, but it is about concussions, and it is about a kid who gets hurt and loses his scholarship because he is of no use to the university then and may not have his health care provided for.

I appreciate Senator Burr bringing up such an interesting issue of what happens at Northwestern with these players, and I might add, I have met with a couple of them, and they are definitely not asking for compensation.

He is now serving a four-year sentence for 'disturbing social order.'

But when his own citizens, including the father of our witness today, sought to hold the Chinese government accountable they were punished.

He has presided over a worrisome crackdown that is estimated to have swept away more than 150 activists, lawyers, journalists, and intellectuals.

President Xi Jinping has been in power more than a year.
