This unacceptable practice leaves counties and localities on the hook for maintaining and upgrading their systems, and this of course endangers public safety.

New Jersey has become the worst 9-1-1 fee diverter in the country, diverting over one billion dollars to non-9-1-1 related purposes.

I commend the Commission and the members of the subcommittee for the good, bipartisan work that has occurred over the past year and a half.

I opposed the original legislation in New Jersey because it opened the door to the diversion as we are seeing today.
