Unfortunately, this FCC, under Chairman Pai, continues to turn its back to consumers--in favor of big corporate interests.

More and more challenges just like this are coming. In catering to corporate interests, the FCC has repeatedly stretched the law to the point of breaking.

As part of an effort to expedite the roll-out of 5G service, the FCC stripped away vital protections that helped safeguard important religious and cultural Tribal sites.

Time and time again, this Commission has ignored the voice of the people and has taken a different path laid out by billion-dollar companies.

Unfortunately, this FCC under Chairman Pai continues to turn its back to consumers in favor of big corporate interests.

We need real solutions to address these problems, real protections for the American people, and accountability from our Federal regulators and industries that they oversee.

I believe Congress must move to pass legislation authorizing an auction in this band and resolve the Commission's Authority.

Chairman, I would remind you that you're charged with protecting and serving the American people, not the telecom industry!

Every year, Influenza causes millions of illnesses, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations, and tens of thousands of deaths across the United States.

Vaccinating yourself not only increases the odds that you won't get sick this season, but also protects everyone you come in contact with.

Annual flu vaccination is the best method for preventing flu and its potentially severe complications.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, flu and other immunizations are required to be covered by health insurance at no cost to the patient.

While we wait for the results of this research, it's still critical that we continue to stress the importance of getting vaccinated every year.

We also have a lot of questions about why the flu vaccine is more effective for some people and how someone's health status may affect the body's immune response.

I want to thank Chairwoman DeGette in particular because I know that she annually--pretty much annually--has these hearings because she thinks it's very important.

I started out today talking about how years ago, with Congressmen Dingell, John Dingell, and Waxman, we had this all-in-one bill that covered food, cosmetics, drugs, and everything.

I included a requirement that importers verify that the cosmetic product or cosmetic ingredient that they are bringing into the U.S. is safe.

Yet FDA has shared with me that the agency physically examined only 5,564 of them.

I want to thank you for being here today to discuss cosmetics reform and the need to modernize the FDA's authorities.

I also understand that my colleagues and industry stakeholders still would like to see preemption language added to this legislation.

That's unacceptable, but unless we equip FDA with the tools and resources the agency needs, we're going to continue to see frightening issues with these products for years to come.
