Do we have in the equipment larder right now enough technology that that space could be covered with what is presently being used throughout the aviation system?

You have got to know what the soldiers say, what the soldiers see when you are designing a tactic or a strategy.

But we are talking about sums of money to be invested. Do you agree that we have been far short of what we have to do to----

The International Energy Agency says that achieving science-based emissions reductions will require an annual global investment--annual global--of $400 billion a year on energy research and development.

Energy efficiency. So, therefore, as we contemplate touching the abundance of oil and gas in our country, we therefore do not automatically control the growth of global warming.

Well, I close by saying that we are fortunate to have a candidate like you coming to this job.

One of the things that happen in this house of legislation is that sometimes we have to go to 100 Senators to get improvement.

Global warming is one of the greatest environmental challenges that our planet has ever faced.

I know that you are a highly committed and talented public servant, and if confirmed I believe that he is certainly ready to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.

We think he is an outstanding candidate with a distinguished career in environmental leadership, whether government, academia or business, on all fronts.

I think that permeates life at its best, and I am surprised that our distinguished attorney friend thinks that we ought to wait for the other guys to set the example.

I think that, in the case of greenhouse gases, that is what we are talking about.

What I am suggesting is that we lead the world the same way in this area that we led the world in arms control or human rights area by patiently negotiating, pushing hard, obtaining verifiable commitments from our partners.

As people are displaced, they will compete for resources, for land, fresh water and food, and because of global warming, there will be fewer resources to fight over.

Sea level rise threatening families and communities who call the coastal areas of their homes; inhabitants of low lying areas in the Pacific are already seeking new homes on higher ground because their old homes are threatened and will…

As we research the consequences of doing that, we see greenhouse emissions continue to rise at their current rates, global temperatures could increase by more than 11 degrees by the end of this century.

I will enthusiastically support those policies and the general principle of transparency to ensure that the issues you mention do not arise again.

My 2008 Clean Railroads law stops unscrupulous solid waste operators from avoiding environmental protection laws by loading their trash along railways.

I was pleased to hear from my colleague in the Senate, Bob Menendez, who has been a fighter for a long time to improve environmental conditions.

I would suggest that many of my friends on the other side would be far more cautious in their own lives.

The status quo simply will not continue. That is not a live option.
