Thank you again for your important contribution to the work of the committee.

I think that what we have here is a--it boils down to a philosophy that either Washington knows best or locals know best.

It is people who are currently working who are paying a lot in taxes to provide for these programs, which people who may never have worked in the real world are making decisions on how to spend.

Our new governor, Pat McCrory, is placing great emphasis on closing the skills gap to better meet the needs of our citizens who need employment and our businesses that need skilled employees.

I think we are working to educate people and not train them because what we want them to be is lifelong learners.

I believe it is past time to reauthorize and reexamine the Workforce Investment Act in a way that addresses each of these issues.

Chairwoman Foxx this concludes my remarks. I want to again thank you for the opportunity to testify before this Subcommittee on an issue vitally important to American innovation and commerce.

Employers from across the country are reporting the same: that there are jobs available, but not enough skilled workers to fill them.

It is time to be bold with how we prepare today's workers to compete and succeed in this new economy.

I expect we will discuss others throughout the hearing, including how the bill encourages greater collaboration with community colleges and promotes accountability over the use of taxpayer dollars.

Taxpayer dollars are supporting too many bureaucrats and not enough workers.

One of the things we are all concerned about is the issue of transparency and making sure that people have the kind of information that you are gathering

We are very proud of Virginia's longitudinal database system because it is providing a way where we can come together with the State agencies

These are the partnerships we embrace and hope to replicate

The federal government does not need to spend more money to facilitate these investments

Those in Washington have a responsibility to weigh carefully any federal action to ensure that such actions will not create greater costs for students and schools, particularly in these tough economic times.

We are not fiddling while Rome burns; we are looking at the issues, we are looking at the threats to our Constitution that have been established by this administration.

I think part of the reason we have gotten into this situation... is the problems with the NLRA.

Unfortunately, we have been brought to this point by the bad policies of the Obama administration and the Democrats who are in charge of the Senate.

Protecting religious freedom--which is the first part of our First Amendment to the Constitution, and it is no accident that it is in that place--is probably the most important thing we could be doing in this Congress.

The NLRB has a reputation for advancing expensive, job destroying changes to federal labor policies.
