I am a defender of the CFPB and I am concerned about some of the details and that is all well and good, but for me details--we will work out what we can do.

I am interested in the availability of credit.

I think some of it is legitimate. I am sure you share some of the same concerns.

Do you have the ability to make a quick, even if temporary, adjustment to your rule to address something that maybe your estimates were wrong on?

I guess the next question I have really is, what if you are wrong?

My concern is if you are wrong and it takes 9 months to adjust that problem, then we are possibly on the brink of another economic crisis that could be averted.

So the biggest problem is the reverse mortgage part? I just want to make sure my understanding of the whole math thing is correct.

I would like to get the reverse mortgages out of the MMI.

Obviously, we all agree that we have some issues with it, though obviously, there may be some differences on the extent of those problems and what to do about them.

I want to focus on what the problems are.

People who live in their homes for 40 years under this situation should be able to stay in their home until the last spouse goes.

Over $30 billion that is sitting there waiting to be--if necessary to be used.

Yet, because of a law that makes no sense to me, we are not allowed to use that to offset their principal.

I have some very serious problems with the way we deal with surviving spouses now.

I actually think this is going to be the most informative panel we have had, and the most thoughtful discussion, I am hoping.

So far, the testimony and the discussion has been exactly what I had hoped for, the least ideological discussion I think I have ever heard on this committee on an important issue.
