I can't think of a worse first step this Committee could take in a new Congress than to waste taxpayer dollars.

Common ground is when we are together, when we are face to face.

I was encouraged by President Biden's call for unity in his inaugural speech, and I hope this Committee will follow that call to action.

It is not how we should be operating.

We have a responsibility to the taxpayers to, not only work together, but to also run this Committee in a transparent way.

I believe getting this Committee back to regular order can help us increase transparency and hopefully it will improve bipartisan relations as well.

I am hopeful our hearing room will reopen soon so we can work together in person.

We are going to have a good time.

I think it is important to have more public hearings on very pressing issues within our jurisdiction and be less reliant on committee polls.

I am just excited to see the student loan program that has been very successful in helping congressional staffers be able to pay off their student debt.

Instead, this committee's focus has been on how we can permanently implement remote voting so Members don't ever have to come to Washington again.

Mr. Chair, did you miss me? He didn't even say yes.

I did miss you, and I missed all of our colleagues.

I commend you for holding this hearing today. This is an important discussion--important to all of us in the room.

The DBE program has been successful, and this Committee has demonstrated a bipartisan commitment to this program.

The greatest threat to the integrity of our elections is partisanship, and I have seen no better example of destructive partisanship than that ad.

While expanding voting rights is a noble and just cause, we are less than 100 days until States and localities will be conducting a Presidential election in the middle of a global pandemic.

Throwing that into a 600-page bill named H.R. 1... people didn't have as much input in that bill.

Since the creation of the Committee on House Administration, oversight of Federal elections quickly became one of its chief tasks.
