Tomorrow on the House floor we are going to vote on what I think should be called the Bait and Switch Act.

I can't think of a more tone-deaf hearing to be having today.

Are these numbers high compared to other communities?

I appreciate your optimism, but forgive me for being somewhat of a pessimist because I have had this same conversation for years now.

On another issue in my district, we have consistently had the worst on-time service for the Saluki Express and the Illini Express Amtrak routes in central, eastern, and southern Illinois.

You were such a great example as the chairman of House Administration.

I have long advocated for the creation of a marijuana impairment detection system.

If somebody is impaired and driving, then they should lose their privileges if they test higher than what the legal limit is.

My concern is--and I would like to know from you--where is that data that can be used by our local DOT in the State of Illinois, or elsewhere in the country, or local governments, where is that sourced from?

How important is it that we ensure our local communities and States have the ability to address their specific needs as opposed to a one-size-fits-all Federal approach to safety?

Those States have a lot to learn from Republican-led States like Florida, who have done the hard work of identifying issues and updating their election laws to restore integrity and voter confidence.

I would like to start by noting that we should be having today's Subcommittee hearing in President Biden's home State of Delaware, maybe Speaker Nancy Pelosi's home State of California, or even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's home…

I ask for your support of $20 million dollars to create a Colorectal Cancer Research Program within the Department of Defense.

Well, and I asked the same question when we had the roundtable. But it is a certain type of paper that is not being produced as much by producers that is required for election administrators and election equipment to operate effectively.

And my main concern in bringing this up here today is really to be able, again, to collaborate with the STB if we see that the shortage actually happens.

I have had discussions with folks in the election space who have serious concerns with a paper shortage in the upcoming elections.

I am committed to helping broker a solution for these concerns to ensure that elections officials have the materials they need.

The election and having faith in our election systems, it is too important to be disrupted by a product shortage that, if we can address together, we can make sure that that does not happen.

Time is money, and in a world of skyrocketing inflation, further delay in implementing this law limits the total number of jobs.

Earlier this month, we once again saw sky-high inflation numbers, 8.5 percent.

I object. Just kidding.

Well, that leads me to you, Mr. Booker. I appreciated the building trades' past support for the One Federal Decision bill.

For too long, worthy infrastructure projects have been needlessly delayed by our permitting system.

And now we just hope that the administration is able to implement this provision in a way that we had intended it when this was debated numerous times here in this committee.
