I do not believe these disparities exist because the profession is full of racists. I believe they exist because of structural racism.

Thank you, Chairperson Lofgren, for holding this hearing, and welcome to both witnesses today who are testifying for the first time before our Committee.

You have already scored a big success with the Apollo 50 Go for the Moon event on The Mall in July.

The Institution must be perceived as an honest broker and apolitical, particularly when Americans remain divided on many issues.

I do want to thank you, Secretary Bunch, for bringing the cast of the hands of one of my most famous constituents in Springfield, Illinois.

I certainly look forward to working with you. You have already scored a big success with the Apollo 50 Go for the Moon event on The Mall in July.

The concern of post-employment background checks, huh? What are you hiding, Mr. Secretary?

Very important issue. As I said in my opening statements, congestion even hits a district like mine.

Congestion negatively impacts our ability to move products to domestic and international markets, which undermines our economy and global competitiveness.

Now, that may work in Chicago, but I am really not convinced it is going to work in the smaller cities that I represent.

As we work to reauthorize surface transportation programs and policies, it's my hope we can address school bus safety in a bipartisan manner that prevents such instances from occurring in the future.

Statistics show that the schoolbus is the safest and most regulated vehicle on the road.

Each fatality resulting from a school bus crash is more than a statistic.

Congratulations to you, Madam Chair, and to the Ranking Member, Mr. Dunn. This is a great Subcommittee to be a part of.

Based on your performance over the last few years, I am looking forward to working with you in your new position.

Now my biggest problem is, is the Corps of Engineers going to spend that money wisely.

The goal of this committee has and always will be to put good policies in place without letting partisanship get in the way.

I am really honored to be here today. I really want to welcome Chief Sund to the first hearing.

I believe every vote we take has an impact on whether or not we get reelected or elected in the first place.

It is imperative that we look at the last 2 years of the last administration and look at what we project the next 2 years to be.

I can't think of anybody more qualified and with the unanimity of support coming in since I have been here.

These investments are, in fact, important to the Nation.

Transit is necessary.

I look forward to having that debate at this committee, and I look forward to our Ways and Means Committee, our committee on revenue, have the debate.

I think we all agree that the current CBA is not sufficient to address some of the issues, especially with litigation----
