I think one of the important things is to deal with some of these issues about equity.

It is a multigenerational commitment. Our national cemeteries and our State cemeteries are truly an important part of this country's heritage.

I support all of them and look forward to any suggestions that the witnesses or fellow Members of the Committee have for how these bills might be improved.

I really would like to drill down a little bit on this question about how we make these technologies accessible to the people who don't have means.

I want to thank the Chairman, my fellow Subcommittee Members, to all of you here today, for helping us do right by those who have given their lives in service to their country.

We need to figure out how to be responsible. And it is going to be a long transition.

We have to be looking at systems, and I think talking about these systems, not as a Silicon Valley 'fun to have,' but as a 'need to have.'

This just makes sense and allows us, in fact, to provide better for those who visit our cemeteries and to the families.

It is our job to monitor Agency activities and to make sure they are consistent with congressional intent.

So we need to know what exactly is the holdup here.

We appreciate you being here, and would urge you to continue to... if it is really complying with what needs to happen.

So we are facing a really serious question here of how we do our duty in oversight and in resourcing your agency to protect the American people.

You can have the best rules on the book, but if they are not implemented well... nothing is going to matter.

So again, I would urge you in the strongest possible terms to identify for us what we can do to move this forward.

How can I go to my constituents and say, 'We are from the Government, trust us'? We can't do that, responsibly.

You understand the high level of frustration here. And that is concern. I mean it is not frustration about our prerogatives being disrespected. This is about the people we represent.
