I think we need to start with getting it to an appropriate state where it should be, and then we will continue to stay at the table, and do our best to get it right.

It was heroic. It was heroic of these people, many of whose homes were destroyed or damaged or flooded, whose families were, themselves, in distress.

I have been reflecting on our duty as Members of this Committee to ensure the respectful and dignified memorialization in perpetuity of America's military veterans.

Congress needs to do better on that issue.

It is completely unacceptable to think that we are going to wait... that we would be doing that to the present generation of veterans.

I want to follow up with you afterwards because we had some interesting testimony over in the Senate on gun violence issues

I want to thank the Chairwoman and Ranking Member Lipinski and Chairman Weber and Ranking Member Veasey for joining us here today.

Research aboard the International Space Station is critical to our journey to Mars.

DOD is really worried about them right now, and that is going to impact taxpayer dollars as well as military preparedness.

In my State of Connecticut, which has decided to lean in to a lower carbon future because it sees both the short- and the long-term advantages of that.

I do think it also underscores the importance of technological innovation in a variety of sectors.

I want to thank our witnesses for joining us here today for this important hearing.

But tying both of these issues together, do people receive notice say at a payout of 50,000 or higher?

I think it is very important to say, like, we are just not actually going to let you opt out when you are in active duty because that is irresponsible and unfair to your family who will bear the burden if that happens.

So I would like you, for both those programs, to help us, with your thought, like, what would happen if we just flipped the presumption?

I look at particularly for VGLI, if you do not enroll promptly, you have to go back through a medical exam.

Fix is clearly that's an unacceptable situation, and we should fix that.

I want to thank you for scheduling this important hearing today on the numerous life insurance programs.

We're specifically calling for that. My father and grandfather were both civil engineers.
