I want to thank you for scheduling this important hearing today on the numerous life insurance programs.

Fix is clearly that's an unacceptable situation, and we should fix that.

But tying both of these issues together, do people receive notice say at a payout of 50,000 or higher?

I think it is very important to say, like, we are just not actually going to let you opt out when you are in active duty because that is irresponsible and unfair to your family who will bear the burden if that happens.

We're specifically calling for that. My father and grandfather were both civil engineers.

We've called for the creation of something like an ARPA H2O to look at the water infrastructure.

We know that making long-term investments in our nation's infrastructure stimulates the economy, creates jobs, and drives commerce.

I just want to take a moment to again implore this committee to provide oversight to EPA Administrator Pruitt.

Administrator Pruitt's alleged unethical behavior, his wasteful use of taxpayer money, his ongoing efforts to undermine the EPA's mission...

To all of you, and based on the anecdotes you shared with us here today, it seems like there's a very serious lack of situational awareness of people in the academy.

We have benefited enormously by that openness, but that makes us extremely vulnerable.

Having been a law student, a lot of law students don't take intellectual property courses, so I think you're going to need to have something that's a mini version that's accessible to people.

It's sort of not in the mindset of the academics.

If the President refuses to hold him accountable, then Congress has to do its job.

I strongly support H.R. 4958, the Veterans Compensation Cost of Living Adjustment Act of 2018 sponsored by Chairman Bost and myself.

It matters a lot to our veterans.

It is currently a problem, because our point should be to enable our veterans.

I'm deeply concerned about that.

I think we all owe it to them to make sure that those legacy appeals don't just disappear.

Our veterans served us, and we need to ensure that we are effectively serving them.

if the end-users, the veterans we are here to serve, are not able to access, we have a problem, right?

we do a lot of outreach. We hear all the time how they can't get in to see somebody from VocRehab.

This impact on not having consistent high-level funding is making our research institutions like UConn and Yale in my State of Connecticut are having increasing difficulty in retaining the top-tier talent.
