The stability and economic strength of Jamaica are important to our national security interests in the Caribbean.

Currently the stockpile is critically deficient in Jamaican-type bauxite, with an inventory 12 million tons below requirements.

I have chosen the latter.

Of course, we now must come back and do the work all over again in the Congress on a bill that can be signed.

I don't think the people should take less than that.

I must urge the Congress to act promptly and responsibly.

I would have called, not only just being late now, but, earlier, but I had a little problem there.

We in this country have a cultural record to be proud of.

Through private and voluntary contributions, the American people maintain more orchestras, more opera, more ballet, more nonprofit theater, more libraries and other cultural activities than all the rest of the world put together.

Those principles must be reaffirmed by every generation of Americans, for freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.

We the people—and that is still the most powerful phrase—created government for our own convenience.

Rights given to government were taken from the people.

The leadership of men like Madison gave shape to a nation that would become the greatest the world has ever seen.

Let it be said of this generation of Americans that when we pass the torch of freedom onto the new generation, it was burning as brightly as when it was handed to us.

We must promote the economic and social development of the hemisphere through international cooperation.

But you know that it would be—there's no way that you can comment now while this is still evidently under review.

We agreed that efforts must be made to strengthen democracy, liberty, and pluralism against extremism and totalitarianism.

Yes, and then it was investigated. And it was reported that everything was fine.

We can be expected to continue our opposition to any interference in the internal affairs of Western Hemisphere countries.
