Food banks, as important as they are, we cannot food bank our way out of this.

Every week that I am in the district, I get out to a food bank, and as you can imagine, I have seen those lines only get longer, unfortunately.
As many of you know, I come from the Central Coast of California, and as Zippy Duvall knows well, they call it the Salad Bowl of the World.
What I am about to show you are the examples of the cycle of destruction from the climate crisis in my home district on the central coast of California. Last year, my district was victim to a brutal wildfire season in which almost 650,000…
After one long year of this pandemic, many of my constituents are anxious. And, yeah, they are angry. Their health has been harmed, their businesses have been shut down, and they are absolutely frustrated waiting for their vaccines. They…
Every week I try to get out to a food bank, and I can tell you, the ones that have the National Guard members helping out are the ones that run the most efficiently.
The National Guard has played a huge role within the last year, dealing with wildfires, dealing with storms, yes, dealing with COVID.
If you are going to have FEMA at the major population centers, then maybe you help the State and local governments use National Guard to get the vaccination out there to those areas that aren't in the major population areas.
I agree with the President of the United States that we are dealing with a wartime effort.
A week ago was the culmination of carnage caused to our country by this President. Four years ago, he said he would stop such devastation. Instead, the President has continued to debase our democracy with assaults on our elections and…
On January 7 at 4 a.m., I was right outside those doors where, 14 hours earlier, a rioter was shot as she violently tried to enter this Chamber. It was in that early morning and at that location that I had a brief conversation with Vice…

I think it is very important that our students understand not just what it takes to move the food and agricultural industry, but to understand the history of food and agriculture.
I thank Chairman Larson, and I appreciate all of his work and, of course, his support and friendship. Madam Speaker, I rise today to urge my colleagues to support H.R. 2477, the BENES Act, which includes my bill and Tom Reed's bill, the…
It says a lot about Chair Plaskett's leadership, but it also says a lot about the make-up of the Agriculture Committee.
The coronavirus is exploding, our hospitals are bursting, and many parts of our economy are hurting. It is no wonder why Fed Chair Powell and so many other economists are warning about the long-term damage that could be done if we don't…
I appreciate you being able to talk about such a relevant and topical topic, especially concerning this type of issue.
I want to just kind of remind you about the REPLANT Act, H.R. 7843, when it comes to forest restoration.
I have spoken with Chief Christensen, I have spoken with Under Secretary Hubbard, about the shortages that are not just affecting but really plaguing our National Forests.
one of these first steps, at least how we can help out, is through the Wildfire and Public Safety Act.
Over this August break, my family and I left our house, not because it was vacation season but because it was wildfire season, and we were some of the thousands of people that were evacuated from our homes. Now, thanks to the amazing work…
I thank the gentleman for yielding and for having this Special Order in which we rise, remember, and recognize one of our country's civil rights champions, one of America's heroes, my friend, our colleague, and, yes, the conscience of…
I thank the chairman and the ranking member. Mr. Speaker, I rise today in support of the 2020 Water Resources Development Act, a bill that includes language that I fought for to ensure that the Federal Government not just supports and…
I thank Mr. Aguilar and Ranking Member Davis for their work in bringing this bill to the floor. Madam Speaker, I rise today in support of the National Museum of the American Latino Act, this bipartisan legislation that would establish a…
