I am a big supporter of our Coast Guard, and am always troubled by, frankly, the funding levels that we give to our Coast Guard for your--for the missions that we expect from the Coast Guard.
I am going to introduce legislation that I think would help to close these loopholes.
I represent the Ports of Los Angeles, and part of Long Beach, and all the oil and gas pipelines connecting the ports with refineries in the area, and pipeline safety is very, very important to me, particularly for the communities…
I like to call them America's port, since 44 percent of all the trade coming to this country comes through those ports.
It seems reasonable that they would be allowed to use this money for other uses within their ports.
I really do think--I mean I am all about homeland security, but I am also about a community's right to know.
I have been trying to get them moved or shut down for as long as I can remember.
I just feel like if at any point during this 15 years, if the current owner of the pipeline had verified that it was empty, or State officials would have verified it was empty, or the Federal Government would have verified it was empty…
What can I tell my constituents in San Pedro, California, that PHMSA is doing to protect them from a possible leak?
