I have some concerns over the process associated with access to public lands for purposes of filming

I do think that demonstrates wishful thinking and not the governance we need with this budget.

I think it is important to state very clearly that the concern and the anxiety up north is this is GMT1, what is the next project going to hold, what will the precedents be.

We ask the United States to step up and honor the agreements and treaties between our great Nations and protect the funding of Native American programs.

Thank you Chairwoman Murkowski and Ranking Member Udall and the entire subcommittee for the opportunity to submit testimony.

I sincerely hope that you and the subcommittee will consider our request to provide funding of the American Battlefield Protection Program's land acquisition grants program at its authorized level of $10 million.

I do not think that is where we should go, and I hope that is not where the Department is intending to go.

I do not see how making it more expensive and difficult to do business on public lands is good, sound policy.

That is not something that is right, and it is not something I can tolerate.

I want to point out the aspects of your budget that focus on tribal law enforcement.

I would like your commitment that you will work with me.

I also support provisions in this budget that would increase the land management activities that reduce fire risk, improve water quantity and quality and enhance carbon sequestration.

I am pleased to note the President's budget proposal emphasizes forest restoration.

I worry there's not going to be anything to transition to given what we have seen coming out of the Forest Service operations.

I believe, pretty strongly, that we need to have a renewable energy plan in the amendment to the Tongass plan.

The Forest Service has broken the federal government's promise to actively manage our National Forests.

I also appreciate the way the Administration has viewed timber harvesting as a means of restoration.

I support fixing the Forest Service fire transfer problem which has placed enormous strain on its budget for more than a decade.

The timber industry can be sustainable but the funding required for Secure Rural Schools in the absence of timber harvesting simply is not sustainable.

I would ask that you not forget the smaller communities where we see--we see an addiction and a devastation truly just taking our communities, just wiping them out.

The public safety challenges that face Alaska Native villages run the gamut.

I agree with you. We have got a lot of work to do, and I look forward to those conversations with you and your team.

Recreation and tourism are not substitutes for responsible resource development on federal lands.

I believe the President's budget is a strong proposal that will enable the Forest Service to fulfill its motto of, 'caring for the land and serving the people.'

I would also like to commend the President for a strong commitment to fully funding the Land and Water Conservation Fund in this budget.
