The federal government needs to adopt a military chain of command and execute. They're not executing. It's disjointed. It's disconnected.

It's just like a hostage crisis. We're on day 77, we've been hostage -- taken hostage by the oil, and we're also hostage to bureaucratic red tape.

The $20 billion is woefully inadequate. The $100 million is woefully inadequate.

The president of the United States needs to exercise his executive authority, cut through the red tape, and order these agencies to get it done.

If this -- if we were being invaded by a foreign country, we would be an occupied territory right now.

The federal government and BP are stuck on stupid 72 days into this thing, two and a half months, 10 weeks, and there's still not a sense of urgency.

The President of the United States needs to exercise his executive authority, cut through the red tape, and order these agencies to get it done.

This is going to dwarf Katrina. And Katrina was a trillion dollars.

Anderson, this is the worst oil crisis in U.S. history. Cut the red tape. Redeploy them down here. Let's not worry about what might happen. We have a situation here that we need to deal with. We need to cut the red tape.

At this point in time, every day, every hour, every minute counts. This is just another example of the unmitigated failure that the federal government and the federal response has been to date.

We need the federal government to cut the red tape. We need the -- the President to exercise his executive authority and say, cut through the red tape. We don't have a minute to waste.

If this was a war, as everyone said -- and even the President said last night that we're under siege -- if this was a war, we would be occupied territory by now. It's gone on two months.

I believe it is critical for the defense acquisition executive to serve with the affirmation of the United States Senate.

I am honored that President Bush, Secretary Gates, and Secretary England have extended to me their confidence and support in nominating me to lead the defense acquisition team.

I have sought to constantly apply the principles I learned from these gentlemen.

I believe strongly in the capability and dedication of the defense acquisition team.
