We must take the time to draw upon lessons learned from past technological disruptions, assess the opportunities and potential risks, and implement a coordinated national strategy to ensure the benefits of AI are enjoyed by everyone.

As Chairwoman, I take seriously the responsibility entrusted to this Committee to support the nation's research and innovation enterprise for the benefit of society.

We need to continue to find alternative transportation options.

Let me be clear, gutting the roles of science in EPA's regulatory and decisionmaking processes will not make our air safer to breath or our water safer to drink.

I know I speak for many of my colleagues when I say that our constituents also understand the importance of a strong EPA, and they are paying attention to the decisions being made here in Washington.

Rhetoric about American leadership in space and advancing the role of women in spaceflight is all well and good, but it is not a substitute for a well planned, well managed, well funded, and well executed exploration program.

I look forward to this discussion, and to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

We need to be sure they are developed efficiently and are well-managed.

Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman, and good afternoon. Let me thank you for holding this timely hearing on how we can best accelerate the sustainability of our Nation's transportation sector.

If NASA and the Administration can't meet simple hearing deadlines, it doesn't inspire great confidence in their ability to meet the much harder deadline of landing astronauts on the Moon by 2024.

I certainly want this Nation to explore deep space with humans once again, and I think it is a sentiment shared by Members on both sides of the aisle.

That's why this hearing is so important.

Today's hearing expands upon our commitment to addressing the environmental impacts of transportation in order to mitigate its impacts on climate change and air pollution.

I recognize that solutions for congestion need to be tailored to the community and that a 'one-size fits all solution' is not the answer.

I fully support efforts to establish scientific standards and protocols across forensic science disciplines.

The Federal Government has a duty to press forward with the best science to ensure that our justice system employs those methods and eliminates the use of junk science.

I am deeply troubled by the likelihood that these numbers represent just the tip of the iceberg.

I look forward to a spirited discussion and to working with my colleagues across the aisle to move bipartisan legislation through this Committee.
