“we are now engaged in a constitutional process that is about the search for truth. I believe that we should do that in a fair and expeditious way, completely disregarding polls, completely disregarding the pendency of an election on November 3, and answering the question that our colleague from California just asked about whether it is appropriate just to move along. Of course, we do want to move along to important issues facing the country. We do want to restore freedom in health care, we do want to secure the future of Medicare and Social Security, and we do want to continue the progress toward balancing the budget. All of those things we want to do. But I would ask my colleagues to consider this. Really, this is the crucial business of the country. This is the crucial business. As we go into the next century, the question is, does the truth even matter. Now, some would say, let us move along, it does not matter, just move along. But if we move along, what we are leaving aside is serious allegations of serious crimes.”
