I don't believe that Homeland Security should be about economic opportunities. But I believe that the jobs are very important.

I would like to see that number ramped up versus the large number for detention beds.

I think our focus should be on people who are here to do us harm.

Whenever we hear individuals speak about more deportations we literally have nightmares about dragging people out of their homes who happen to be U.S. citizens, but they happen to have Latino names.

I would hope we would have a discussion further on that as we go forward in the budgeting process.

How do you know that?

You have now engaged with Elbit Systems of America on the deployment of integrated fixed towers and that valued contract was $145 million although the initial projected cost was $600 million.

When do you expect then to get back with CBP on these present recommendations?

How long would they need for compliance? How long would they need to engage in the process?

We simply cannot afford to spend another $1 billion on border security technology that fails to deliver as promised.

So as we stand now from the recommendations made by GAO, CBP is not in compliance?

We all want this to work. We are in a new world and again I just want to repeat that our critique today is to make it better for America.

Might I just echo two of my preceding colleagues. It would be great if we, ourselves, self-regulated ourselves with respect to the streamline of committees that address the question of homeland security.

Let me very quickly add my appreciation for the apprehension of Guzman, and all that that represents, particularly the heroic efforts of ICE and the U.S. Marshals, DEA, Mexican authorities.

Well, I think that any method that we can identify who is inside the country is certainly beneficial to our country.
