The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission plays an integral role in the safety, security, and economic prosperity of all Americans.

Too often people fall into the trap of assuming a clean environment is incompatible with economic growth and job creation. But we can and must have both.

Regardless of whether you're in government or not, we must always keep in mind the EPA's core mission tasked by Congress in statute: clean air for Americans to breathe, safe water for our citizens to drink, soils free from pollution.

We can and must address climate change risks through American innovation, conservation, as well as adaptation and preparation.

Innovation is where the long-term solutions to climate change are, we want America to lead the world in innovation.

Moving forward, there is much that we could do right now in a bipartisan way.

I believe we can not only support the use of good science or public input when it guarantees our preferred policy solutions.

We should continue to make progress on reducing global climate risks without adding unnecessary regulatory burdens.

I want to be clear--climate change is real.

Let's work together as we have in the past to reduce the barriers to innovation.

It is essential that we have access to our local news, sports, weather, and emergency information.

We, obviously, will work together as we have to avoid unnecessary shutdown of these programs in September when their authorizations expire.

As I emphasize when we did this five years ago during my time as subcommittee chair, this must be a transparent process and driven by data.

Congress must consider whether a distant network signal license extension is a bridge or a blockade to delivering local coverage.

Our goal should certainly be that everyone in the country has access to local content and at a reasonable price.

Thirty years ago, Congress sought to ensure that rural Americans, unable to receive an over-the-air broadcast signal, would still be able to view content via satellite services.

I am committed to ensuring that all rural communities, both in Oregon and across the country, continue to receive robust, effective, and affordable local coverage.

This is a really important day and marks an important step for the committee's work to examine legislation that really strengthens our healthcare safety net by extending these critical programs.

These programs, which have long enjoyed strong bipartisan support, include Community Health Centers, Teaching Health Centers, the National Health Service Corps, and the Special Diabetes Programs.

I am disappointed, Madam Chair, that the committee did not include in this hearing H.R. 2700, the Lowering Prescription Drug Costs and Extending Community Health Centers and Other Public Health Priorities Act.
