Our total debt is bigger than our economy.

Let me start on the big picture here. We haven't solved the problem.

If we lower our tax rates--and believe me, there is a way to do this without losing revenue.

The debt limit provides a good opportunity to address this crisis.

I think there should be an honest national debate on federal spending priorities and an agreement with the President on constructive spending restraint.

Congress should work to repeal and replace the current debt limit with a more effective limit.

We welcome that opportunity, as well as the HCTC extension for the next year.

To sit in a meeting with these folks, who didn't do anything wrong, paid money in, had a pension, were ready to go, worked hard their whole lives...

I hope I get as much enthusiasm from my friends on the other side about reforming bankruptcy laws for all Americans.

I guess as my time is winding down I'm going to argue on behalf of my constituents and these Delphi salaried folks that they should have been included in some of these.

So what are you going to do? Are you going to make this person pay it back, Mr. Werfel?

as a business owner, I worked on the 4th of July and I worried about it and I fielded calls from other franchisees asking what this meant on the 4th of July.

Students use that money to pay for finance and school, and I think it is going to become increasingly harder for them to pay for school when we can only work 25 hours.

So somebody will get 2 years of a subsidy that they signed up for unknowingly, which they got, which the law does not make them eligible for.

These aren't manufactured concerns. These aren't opinions.

So this fall when a 25-year-old Milwaukeean signs up because she does not get health insurance at her job, but she is ineligible legally for the subsidy...

I do not think you understand the law you are in charge of executing and enforcing.

That is not a phony scandal. That is a real scandal.

The IRS will struggle to complete all required testing.

I take issue with the idea that somehow these bills can't become law.

To quote one of my Democratic colleagues, when is the White House going to actually get up and go?

The condition of your birth shouldn't determine the outcome of your life.

We have taken over that responsibility, and I think we need to be very careful about how we provide programs to families.

I think what we have forgotten is that fathers are real important to their children.

For too many families, the American Dream is out of reach.
