It was disheartening to watch the President on the ground in California earlier this week where he once again fully denied scientific facts.

The fires are producing some of the worst air quality in the world.

We must strengthen the Safe Drinking Water Act to ensure that everyone has access to drinking water that is safe and healthy.

It is time we improve the standard-setting process to one that works efficiently and in a timely manner and that is health-based and covers vulnerable populations.

Where you live should not play a factor in whether or not your tap water is clean and safe.

This simply should not be happening.

Unfortunately, there are fundamental weaknesses in both the design and implementation of the Safe Drinking Water Act that leave us all at risk.

Every American should be able to turn on their tap confident that the water coming out is safe and healthy.

Safe drinking water obviously is essential to our Nation's public health, and never has that been more clear than during this pandemic.

I want to make sure that you will guard against any pressure that comes from the FDA to either lower its standards, or to approve something that you know doesn't meet the standards.

But now that Trump is President, I still think there's a real possibility that he will pressure the FDA to lower the standards.

My fear is that FDA will be forced by the Trump Administration to approve a vaccine that lacks effectiveness.

I'm hopeful that if we prioritize public health and strategic preparation, and the administration finally learns from its mistakes, that our collective efforts will result in a safe, effective, and accessible COVID-19 vaccine.

From day one, President Trump has done everything he can to minimize the severity of this pandemic and to undermine his public health experts.

Congress provided billions of dollars for COVID-19 vaccine development and manufacturing efforts and other medical countermeasures.

I also appreciate the chance to bring some transparency to the Trump administration's Operation Warp Speed efforts.

Ultimately, it will be the collaboration of your efforts, in partnership with the administration and the support of Congress that will make a COVID-19 vaccine possible.

Today we'll explore the pursuit of vaccines that could help contain the largest public health crisis the Nation has faced in over a century.

This wrongheaded effort threatens the important, longstanding principal of civilian--not military--control over the nuclear weapons stockpile.

We must do more to aid this struggling industry.

The research being conducted at the National Laboratories is important to analyze the structure of the virus and model its spread.

There is no better way to stimulate the economy and create millions of good paying jobs, in my opinion, than to modernize our badly aging infrastructure.

We have to do more to aid the struggling renewable industry.
