I understand that since 2017 the U.S. Center for SafeSport has been responsible for investigating all complaints involving sexual misconduct.

I don't know if I'm going to get through all this, but you mentioned referral to law enforcement.

Today leaders of the Olympic community will tell us that they failed the people they were supposed to protect.

I also want to hear that there will be zero tolerance for the kinds of abuses that brought us here today.

I want you to convince me that you're thoroughly examining how you failed athletes in the past and that those lessons are shaping the reforms you're putting in place.

I also hope we will hear that the U.S. Olympic Committee will use its position of leadership and authority to require sports governing bodies to adopt reforms as needed to reduce the risk of harm to athletes.

I hope we'll hear today that the U.S. Olympic Committee and the sports governing bodies are prepared to provide consistent and continuing support to the Center for SafeSport.

There was a great need for an independent organization, and last March the U.S. Center for SafeSport opened its doors.

The problem of sexual abuse in organized sports is bigger than Larry Nassar and it's bigger than any single organization.

It's shameful that many organizations share the blame for failing these survivors.

I want to thank Ranking Member Green and Chairman Burgess for introducing bipartisan and bicameral legislation to reauthorize this vital program.

I was pleased to lead the last reauthorization of the program with former Health Subcommittee chairman Joe Pitts.

While this program has helped us reverse declines in our pediatric workforce, we know that some areas of the country still face shortages of pediatric providers.

It is critical that we continue to invest in the Children's Hospital Graduate Medical Education program.
