Frank Lautenberg was a prominent American businessman and politician who served as a United States Senator from New Jersey. A member of the Democratic Party, Lautenberg held office from 1982 to 2001 and again from 2003 until his death in 2013. He was known for his advocacy on issues related to transportation, public health, and environmental protection. Lautenberg played a key role in the passage of legislation aimed at improving safety standards in transportation and addressing public health concerns, including efforts to reduce smoking and improve air quality.
The unemployment rate across the country, the highest it has been in 15 years, and those people who have jobs are working longer and getting less for their labor.
I'm concerned, though, how often major climate reports, assessments and programs ignore or omit the topic of ocean acidification.
What we've seen thus far tells us a lot, so much about the threat that is imposed by global warming.
I see the threat of global warming as similar to the plagues that mankind experienced and I call this the 11th Plague.
I would make a request. And I so much appreciate the fact that you are holding this hearing concerning the critical question that faces us.
The fact is that this Committee, and I think you said it very clearly, has a significant role to play in the climate change and certainly our interest is very valuable and absolutely the right thing to do.

The situation you describe is of a serious emergency nature. And just adds fuel to the fire that this country is now in front of us.
It's so discouraging when we look at what's happening to our people by the forces at work in terms of the losses of homes and property and assets and spirit.
I don't want to keep you on this but perhaps you could give us, send in a report about how you measure effectiveness because those are the things we talk about constantly.

I want to ask Dr. Pachauri, what are the credentials for membership in the IPCC? Is there a credential that one has to bring to be a member?
