I’m telling the president that you have been misinformed. You supporting the Senate mark will hurt people who are eligible and qualified for Medicaid.
Thom Tillis
The Public Record

A member of the Republican Party, Tillis has focused on issues such as tax reform, healthcare, and national security during his tenure in the Senate. He previously served as the Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives from 2011 to 2012, where he played a significant role in shaping state legislation.
So what do I tell 663,000 people in two years or three years when President Trump breaks his promise by pushing them off Medicaid?
I would not seek re-election after voting against advancing the 'big, beautiful bill.'
It is inescapable that this bill in its current form will betray the very promise that Donald J. Trump was in the Oval Office.
I cannot support this bill in its current form. It would result in tens of billions of dollars in lost funding for North Carolina, including our hospitals and rural communities.
This will force the state to make painful decisions like eliminating Medicaid coverage for hundreds of thousands in the expansion population.
Sen. Thom Tillis could vote to take away our health care and give tax breaks to billionaires.
I did my homework on behalf of North Carolinians, and I cannot support this bill in its current form.
It would result in tens of billions of dollars in lost funding for North Carolina, including our hospitals and rural communities.
When people see independent thinking on the other side, they cheer. But when those very same people see independent thinking coming from their side, they scorn, ostracize, and even censure them.
