Thank you, Mr. Chairman, and thanks for holding this hearing.

I have never been so happy to see a Republican in my life, so we will begin.

The velocity of this change is immense and unprecedented, and we need to encourage responsible innovation.

I will not say a number because that is classified. It was horrific.

I do not think that TSA in this context should be allowed to inspect themselves or to judge their own competencies.

Our screening at our U.S. airports is deplorable.

It seems reckless and irresponsible to not require two people on the train.

I agree with your rule.

You have fatigued workers----

You withdrew the rule to require two people on a train. Why--I am just asking you. What is the thinking?

At some point, you know, common sense and basic concern for your workers--and the FRA has a role to play here.

I want to make sure we don't see this suicide issue as just a D.C. VA Medical Center issue.

A more comprehensive system that includes that data would lead to a much better predictive model.

I'm just trying to figure out a way to get at that.

After that crash, I, along with many of my colleagues on this committee, signed a letter asking that the 737 MAX be grounded.

That decision was not political. That decision was based on the tragic facts, on the tremendous loss of life.

Would it be a cleaner solution for Congress just to impose a fiduciary duty on the part of the servicers so that they have to act in the best interest of the student who takes out the loan?

I am just curious, going back to the Chairman's original question, what is the legal basis?

You strip them of their rights. And I cannot believe that the source of this is not anti-union bias.

You can say the statute did it, but the statute didn't do it for 40 years until you got there.

You stripped them of their collective bargaining rights. That's what you did, right?

You say that you have no anti-union bias, and I'll just have to take that at face value.
